AI Impact Data
The following are direct quotes from comments made by participants on the survey.
How have you used AI to help you with your tasks?
“I have used it as a brainstorming tool and let it create drafts of assignments or ideas that I have and tweak it from there. I actually used it to create a flier for my club and didn't have to spend all that time in Canva editing. ;) I have also pasted student responses from a Google Form and/or Canvas Assignments and let it analyze the data. It gave me immediate feedback in knowing where the students were performing and what gaps I needed to address.”
“I use AI every single day to do lots of writing, editing, and admin tasks”
“It has helped me with special pops students in differentiating assignments. I have created rubrics for projects, used AI to make sure my project hits on all the standards in my curriculum, etc.”
“I use it for planning purposes or to enhance a lesson. Also, it helps with writing recommendation letters, generating ideas and just helping me get started when I have an idea, but don't know how to start it.”
How have you used AI with your students?
“I am teaching Seniors and the reality is that they are using it everyday, so I have actually started saying with every assignment whether or not I want them to use it and how. We've had great discussions on its proper use and how to get the most out of the tool. We had a discussion this week that honestly you need to start with the right the questions before you can ask it to do specific tasks. I allowed them to use an AI Tool of their choice to learn Fiscal/Monetary Policy, but made them create questions first. Then, they did additional research and supported or refuted what AI answered. We also discussed the stye of AI writing, which tends to be run-on elaborative sentences and that often misspellings happen, which it's learning from humans and we discussed how those are common mistakes we are seeing in students writing in general. We further discussed how its a tool and not an answer or fix all. We are in charge of the quality and editing.”
“My photography classes have added AI to photos they have taken to create fantasy posters to sell candy.”
“I tried to have SchoolAI create a game to help mine with factoring; I also tried creating a Google Gemini Gem to serve as a study resource to help them prepare for a unit test. I plan to experiment more!”
In what aspects of AI could you use support moving forward?
”A little more in depth on how to effectively use it with students possibly offering course for specific platforms we are interested in”
“Tools or skills students will need post-graduation related to AI. What are employer expectations regarding AI as it relates to our students?”
“I don't always know the licensing rules or allowances by district/state/age, etc... Often, my students are 18+ and bring their own devices, so they are more familiar with AI tools than even I am. I would love a place that I can look that up, along with list of AI tools and what they do, which I know we have. I love the resources on Docs with list of tools, purposes, and our third party licensing and/or permissions. I have loved the demonstrations where you enter the "gems" or "question/code" to have AI create/do something. Keep sharing and demonstrating these! I would love time to just explore the tools in a room with other teachers. It would be great to have PD "Lab" Sessions where we just explore a tool in a room with other teachers and can ask questions as we explore.”
Additional Comments
”It was a great learning curve for me and I appreciate the team led by Randy- they are awesome and very patient with us.”
“AI still scares me a bit. I'm trying to learn it and trying to use it, but it still makes basic mistakes sometimes that can be super frustrating. I think at the end of the day, the educators are still the experts. More training is nice, especially when it's optional and not scheduled on top of other required trainings (or when grades are due). That way, interested parties can dive deeper without the negative attitudes in the room.”
