Google Teams with Caldwell County Schools for Hands-on 'Building with Google' Event

More than 60 middle school students participated in a hands-on "Building with Google" event at the Freedman Center on Friday, April 26. The students built their own computers using Raspberry Pi devices, exploring the exciting world of hardware and software engineering.

The event immersed students in the exciting world of hardware and software engineering and has long been linked to the Students@Work program, a collaboration between the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).

With support from Google’s Lenoir Data Center employees, students received first-hand insight into the exciting world of tech careers. Google employees were present to support students as they dove headfirst into this interactive learning experience.

“Google seeks to inspire the next generation to dive into the world of tech,” said Brad Hefner, Operations Manager at the Lenoir Data Center. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with Caldwell County Schools and for the chance to provide hands-on learning opportunities to so many students.” 

Students received one-on-one help from Google employee volunteers in building computers and gained valuable insight into the exciting world of tech careers.

"Students not only experienced hands-on learning with a computer build but also had the unique experience of working alongside Google professionals," said Anna Reynolds, Granite Falls Middle Digital Learning and Media Specialist. "This experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Caldwell County students."
